Eleonora Gugliotta (Capo d’Orlando ME, 1989) discovered her attraction to the expressive potential of photographic language during her early academic years in Palermo. Photography emerged as a response to her need to explore new tools and techniques beyond the pictorial methods she initially encountered in art school and those she was experimenting with while studying Graphic Design. During her master's studies in Decoration at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan, she began to explore new expressive media such as performance and installation, favoring organic materials derived from human experience, elements of corporeality, and relational and affectionate objects, often inviting the audience to engage intimately with the artwork.
Her work includes installations, environmental interventions, sensitive environments, interactive surfaces, photographic projects, videos, performances, and relational art. Eleonora Gugliotta's research delves into the intimate and profound aspects of individuals, particularly reflecting on the dynamics of human transformation and adaptation, their relationship with nature—highlighting challenges and difficulties—and exposing predetermined mental schemes and social constructs, including issues related to the female condition. Her artistic practice frequently unsettles the viewer.
She has always favored the use of natural filaments—whether wool, hair, or fur—transforming them into authentic signs, akin to lines drawn by a pen guided by the hand and mind. When integrated into space, they become points of connection and junction, as well as visible traces of human movement within the environment.
Eleonora has participated in various group exhibitions, with her first solo show taking place in 2015 at the former studio of Piero Manzoni in Milan. In 2017, she was invited to a workshop at the Venice Biennale. In 2018, she performed at the Macro Asilo Museum in Rome, and in 2019, she won the Paratissima Talent Prize at the Paratissima Art Fair in Turin. Her solo exhibitions were held at the ARTiglieria in Turin in 2020 and 2021. In 2023, she participated in the Biennale Sessions at the Venice Biennale with a project dedicated to the women protests in Iran, which was also exhibited at the Sozzani Foundation in Milan the same year. Additionally, in 2023, she held a solo exhibition at the Norman Tower in Castel di Ieri (AQ). Since 2022, she has been organizing and curating exhibitions for herself and other artists at her Atelier in Milan, where she also teaches Graphic and Pictorial Disciplines at an Art High School.
